Frequently Asked Questions

How do we get started?

We provide a free 30 minute phone consultation. During the consult, we will listen to your concerns and determine the next steps. If further evaluation is needed, the SLP will conduct a formal assessment. You will be provided with the assessment results and treatment plan (goals and recommendations) prior to getting started with therapy sessions. Please contact us for a free consultation!

Do you take insurance?

Currently, Words of Hope is private pay only. We can provide a super bill, in which some insurance companies will accept reimbursement.

Where do therapy sessions occur?

It is important that therapy is conduced in the child’s natural environment, so home and daycare are the primary settings. Because of our emphasis on parent education, the majority of our therapy sessions occur within your home. We currently serve families in the St. Louis/ St. Charles areas. Some parent training sessions can occur via teletherapy.

What are the benefits of in-home therapy?

First and foremost, in-home therapy is for you and your child’s comfort and convenience. There are no additional travel fees and we come directly to you! Furthermore, there is a greater chance that your child will carryover skills outside of the therapy session when therapy happens in his/her natural environment. Some reasonings for this include: using toys that are easily accessible to the child beyond an hour long therapy session, easier transitions in and out of the therapy session, and in-the-moment strategies that are modeled and then can be applied all week long (not just when the SLP is present).

How long are therapy sessions?

One-on-one therapy sessions are typically an hour long one time per week. Parent training sessions vary in length.

How long will my child need therapy?

Unfortunately, there is not an exact answer. Because each child has individual differences, there is not a one-size-fits-all response. We pride ourselves in providing a personalized experience. During your child’s evaluation, the SLP will determine an individualized treatment plan. Therapy is typically conducted for six months prior to receiving a progress note with an updated treatment plan. A re-evaluation can occur annually if determined necessary by the treating SLP.

What is the difference between the two parent training programs?

In short, our Tips for Tiny Talkers program is focused on condensed parent training sessions (strategies are selected to meet your individual needs); whereas our It Takes Two To Talk program provides a combination of parent training sessions and individual therapy sessions (the program follows a comprehensive curriculum).
